Self Care

Updated: Jul 12, 2023

PLEASE don’t forget to take care of YOU too…

Age UK carry out some incredible research and have recently announced that during the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of unpaid carers aged 65 and over, doubled to more than a staggering 4,000,000!

The figures are unimaginable. And of those carers, 23% were in their 80s or older – that’s one in six or 780,000 people, aged 80 or older, providing more than 75,000,000 hours of free care.

Everyone has shown such great strength and compassion over the last year or so; going the extra mile to ensure that loved ones are safe and cared for. But, irrespective of age, caring for others quite so intensively, as selflessly, and over such extended periods of time, can impact negatively on our own health and wellbeing.

We all need a break; time and space for ourselves, to do things for ourselves, to rest, do something fun, read a book, go for a long walk, relax. Its basic self-care. Its wellbeing. It’s not selfish, it is a necessity. And if help and support is needed in order to get it, then there is help out there. And so is the financial support.
